What does root access mean?
Root is the main user on a Linux server, with permission to do everything. With root access you can install any program, change any setting and add other users. Keep the root password safe — or better, use an SSH key.
Can I get an Ubuntu VPS?
Yes. Choose Ubuntu when you order — it is the most used Linux for servers and has the most guides. Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux and CentOS Stream are also available.
Is a Linux VPS cheaper than a Windows VPS?
The plan prices are the same for the same size. But Linux uses less of the server, so a smaller plan can do the same job. A website that needs 8 GB on Windows often runs well on 4 GB with Linux and Nginx.
Which Linux is best for a beginner?
Ubuntu Server LTS. It has the most guides and answers online, so if you get stuck, someone has usually written the fix. If you prefer clicking in a web page, add a free panel like CloudPanel.
Can I get a Linux VPS with a GUI (desktop)?
Yes. Linux servers come without a desktop, but you can install one, such as XFCE, with xrdp and open it with Remote Desktop. Choose at least 4 GB memory. If you mainly want a desktop, a Windows VPS is usually easier.
