Server words, explained in one line
The words you will see in our guides and on every hosting website.
- VPS
- Virtual private server — your own part of a big computer in a data centre.
- RDP
- Remote Desktop Protocol — how you open a Windows server from your own device.
- vCPU
- A processor core for your server. More cores do more work at once.
- RAM
- Memory. It decides how many programs can stay open together.
- NVMe
- The fastest kind of SSD storage, so programs open quickly.
- IPv4
- Your server's address on the internet. Ours is only yours.
- SSH
- A safe text connection used to control a Linux server.
- Root / Admin
- Full control of the server — install and change anything.
- Ping
- The time a click takes to reach the server and come back.
- Bandwidth
- How much data your server can send and receive each month.
- Uptime
- How much of the time your server is online and working.
- Data centre
- A building full of servers, with backup power and fast internet.

An RDP is a Windows VPS that you open with Remote Desktop. A VPS can also run Linux, for websites and apps. Our VPS vs RDP guide explains when you need which.
How much RAM do I need?
For one person using a Windows desktop, start with 4 GB. A small Linux website needs less. Heavier jobs like emulators need 8 GB or more. The RAM guide has a table for every job.
Which country is best if I am in Pakistan?
For speed, the closest place — Pakistan or the UAE. If you need a USA or UK IP, choose that country — Remote Desktop still works well. The location guide compares them.
How do I connect to my RDP?
On Windows, press Windows + R, type mstsc, enter your IP and log in. On a Mac or phone, install the free Windows App. The connect guide shows every step.
My RDP is slow — what should I do?
Check your own internet first, then close heavy programs on the server and lower the screen quality in Remote Desktop. The slow RDP guide lists ten fixes.
How do I keep my server safe?
Use a long password, keep Windows updated, and turn on the firewall. Our 12-step security checklist walks you through it.
